Dear Director:

My full name is Eugene David Knudsen, but most people just call me Dave.  I am writing to you
concerning a position as a teacher of English as a Second Language.  My preference would be
to work with adults or university students, but have experience working with people at a variety of
age and proficiency levels, and am generally very flexible and adaptable in any work or life
environment.

I have been traveling for twenty years, and taught school full-time for ten years for the Los
Angeles Unified School District.  Teaching in South Central, Los Angeles, I worked largely with
English language learners, and have received a lot of training in teaching all four primary
language skills; reading, writing, speaking, and listening, as well as earning a Multiple Subject
credential in the state of California, and passing all of the corresponding exams that go with it,
such as the CBEST, MSAT, RICA, and CLAD (Cross Language Academic Development.)

In addition, this summer I completed a TESOL certification course through Oxford Seminars and
have been teaching at Al-Jouf University in the city of Sakaka, Saudi Arabia, since December.

I have always been interested in traveling and becoming familiar with other people and cultures.
Although we have our differences at times, I believe that our similarities outweigh them, and that
we all have something that we can not only teach, but also learn from each other.  In addition to
working as a teacher, I have been a commercial truck driver, a songwriter and recording artist, a
mental health counselor, a photographer and a webpage designer.  My travels have taken me all
over the world, to over sixty countries on six continents.  My desire is to go on meeting new
people, discovering different places and having exciting and interesting experiences, both to
enrich my world view and to make me a better educator.

The enclosed resume should give you some idea about my past job experiences and
accomplishments, but the best way to find out more about who I really am, and if I can be of any
assistance to you, is to contact me in person.  I look forward to hearing from you and wish you
the best in all of your endeavors.  Thank you for your time and consideration.
